A major question will be decided by the UK’s most senior judges later this week. One way or another, their ruling will prove momentous. For not only will half the population be directly impacted by it – both in terms of how they are recognised and what rights, if any, they may be afforded in the way of dignity and security in public spaces – but it will also tell us much about where we are heading as a nation.
Do we respect someone’s personal delusion more than we do scientific reality? Do we value feelings more than we do facts? Do we wish to continue with the rush to militant wokery that has already upended so many social and cultural norms in our society?
Or will we finally come to our senses and begin emerging, dazed and blinking, from the depths of the rabbit hole and out into the sunlit uplands of rationalism and truth?
