A couple of years into New Labour’s reign - when Tony Blair’s extended honeymoon was well and truly over, and disillusionment (particularly among those on the left) had started to creep in - the wonderfully-funny socialist comedian Linda Smith remarked, ‘I had absolutely no expectations of Blair. None whatsoever. And even I'm disappointed.’
