I recently took part in a debate at the Battle of Ideas festival in central London on the topic of free speech in the workplace.
As I explained during the debate, we now have rigid speech codes - sometimes official, sometimes unofficial - in many of our workplaces. This new authoritarianism is often supported by trade unions - something that, as a lifelong trade unionist, I am greatly troubled by.
