Great piece Paul. You know only too well how many women fought for the right to have privacy, I was one of them, and without the Union I genuinely believe it would never have happened (it took about 10 years or more from when women first joined London Fire Brigade) so this betrayal cuts deep. What cuts even deeper are the women pushing for men to be allowed in. Perhaps we made it all too easy for them. Anyway just as an aside, do you know how long it took to get sanitary bins in women's facilities on Fire Stations? About 15 years from when I joined in 1987. 15 years. Can you imagine any business doing that to their female office staff? Great piece, glad I subscribed. I'm only sorry you're not in more national publications.
You don't have to remind me Joe, I remember how most of the women of the FBU treated me for talking to you, Paul, Ian etc, you were pretty much considered slightly right of Mussolini!! I am well Joe & would love to see you. If you're on FB still message me & we'll go from there. Stay well :-) x
A blessed relief to read Paul expose the wicked betrayal of trade union values by these ' leaders' and 'officers'. The nurses were publcly maligned as ' bigots' by North, their ( former) union representative.
How the labour movement has abandoned solidarity and feminism and collapsed in the face of this male-rights ideology is just tragic. But like you Paul I and lots of people i know still uphold the principles of dignity abd justice for working people... and long for this mania to subside.
You would think if there was one part of society that would know the difference between what is a man and what is a woman it would be doctors and nurses.
Of course they do know and many of them grin and bear it but like society in general we allow the destruction of our way of life because we have jobs and family to support, which makes this craveness even worse.
I say no more, not in my name !
Trump and Vance have shown the strong leadership needed , let's press our MPs to do the same.
Thank you Paul - your eloquent and increasingly widely read words mean a lot to me as a former Labour Party member and estranged parent of adult trans identifying daughter who naively supports all this garbage.
I quickly caught up with what the whole issue meant for our society and renewed my commitment to women’s equality.
A spring project will be transferring all my subscriptions into my own name and come out of the cloak many of us felt we had to adopt a few years back. It has to be said it will be easier now I am retired from work where business might have been affected.
Great article Paul. I’ve also been a life-long member of Trade Unions (plural as I’ve changed jobs). The current union leadership is like that of the Labour Party, essentially Middle Class progressives divorced from the workers they were originally set up for. Perhaps the new DNU points the way to addressing this - set up new unions to replace the broken, moribund ones, so they can focus on the rights and conditions of their members, not the pet projects of the ruling elites.
There are independent trade-unions like Affinity who are not 'woke' and just represent their members. I left UNISON years ago. Affinity: https://workaffinity.co.uk/
Thanks Paul. My wife told me this morning that men just don’t get how difficult it is to be a woman. Women’s rights today are being eroded and we need to stand behind any attempts to undervalue them. If you watch Alice Roberts “Historic Cities” and watch the MANCHESTER episode you’ll know what I mean.
Absolutely Paul. The political commissars commit members to supporting their dogma. The fact is that unions should hold ballots on divisive issue like this not impose a coerced consensus. It’s the same on mass immigration, Gaza and Net Zero. The prize for a major union offering its support to the Darlington women and breaking ranks with this nonsense is huge. I think the closer reform (who are essentially Thatcherites but will need to court workers), get to power then you will see that. I hope you (despite your misgivings about Reform )help to broker that. Please use my email to contact me if you are interested in having that discussion.

Thanks, Katy. Lovely to hear from you. And you are completely right, of course.
Katy my old friend you won’t be surprised that Paul’s sharpest critics are women who pertain themselves to be ‘left wing’ feminists.
Hope you’re well pet x

As a lifelong Tory voter (who didn't vote Conservative last time,) let me say, once again, that I agree with everything you say in your article.
It's another sign of hope to me when Labour voters and Tory voters agree with each other but not their current parties ...
Thanks, Mike.

Thank you Paul, clearly explained.
Cheers, Rupert.
