US election aftermath: the liberal left never learns from its mistakes
I wouldn’t have voted for Trump – but I’m sure I know why millions did
It’s like 2016 all over again, isn’t it? Brexit and Trump 1.0. The ensuing hysterical outpourings from liberal sophisticates prophesying a new dark age, with democracy imperilled, ‘fascists’ emboldened, the rule of law under threat, and our rights and liberties in jeopardy. Ordinary voters – the gullible dupes of the nefarious Russians and social media misinformation – plunging us into a new dystopia. The lights going out all over the West; not to be lit again in our lifetime.
As it was eight years ago, so it is today with the return of Trump. Catastrophising from ‘enlightened’ commentators and activists who simply cannot comprehend that not everyone on the planet shares their own narrow ideological worldview. So they stand bewildered, blinking at their TV screens and smartphones as the news rolls in that Americans have given the man of their nightmares a clear and decisive mandate to govern.
They rail against these ‘low-information’ and ‘low-status’ voters who have obviously had their minds poisoned. No sane or sentient person could ever countenance voting for Donald John Trump to be the leader of the free world. The fact that they chose him over Kamala Harris was evidence enough that they were driven only by their own deep-seated prejudice and bigotry and ignorance.
That’s the theory anyway. But it is – not to put too fine a point on it – garbage.
