A few years ago, when asked during an interview to identify Labour figures he would advise Sir Keir Starmer to listen to more closely, Michael Gove, then a cabinet minister, was kind enough to mention yours truly.

I have no reason to believe that Starmer ever knew of Gove’s comments, let alone acted on his advice. Still, in the extremely unlikely event that he did, and is perhaps a secret subscriber to my Substack, here is what I think he ought to say when he visits Donald Trump for a crunch meeting at the White House tomorrow.
